Description
Fuligni Brunello di Montalcino 2019
shows balance and symmetry. The bouquet opens with dark plum, raspberry, spices, anise and Mediterranean herbs. It is a refined and enveloping Brunello with elegant and lively aromas.
Fuligni was founded in 1923 by the Visconti Fuligni, an ancient Venetian family who moved to Tuscany around 1770. The current owner is Maria Flora Fuligni, who works side by side with her nephew Roberto Guerrini Fuligni, the oenologist Paolo Vagaggini and the agronomist Federico Ricci, responsible for managing the vineyard.
For Fuligni, terroir is the essence of great wines as well as the cultural legacy of generations of winemakers who work the land to capture its best exposures and to perfect cultivation and aging techniques. Everything, from the management of the vineyard to the selection of the grapes, focuses on the desire to let the territory express itself.
The grapes are vinified separately according to the crus. The wines are aged in a renovated convent, transformed into a barrique cellar. The cool tranquility of the former convent provides ideal conditions for their elevation.
The property extends east of Montalcino. The surface area includes almost 30-32 hectares of vineyards, mainly located near I Cottimelli. Most of these are dedicated to Sangiovese di Montalcino, while the rest are grown in Merlot, which completes the SJ blend.
The older vineyards are mainly exposed to the east and south-east on stony/clayey hilly “galestro” marl. The soil is poor in organic components which favors minimal yields.
The most recent vineyards were planted to the south-east on tufaceous-clayey soil. Yields are further reduced due to the age of the vines (12 to over 30 years), their density, severe pruning and green harvest. The recently added vineyards are even more densely planted, aged between 10 and 12 years and at a slightly lower altitude of 300 meters on predominantly clay soils better suited to Merlot.
