Description

The Morey-Saint-Denis Cuvée des Grives 2019 by Domaine Ponsot opens in the glass with aromas of sweet spices, cherries, berries and coniferous undergrowth. On the palate it is fresh and full, fleshy and succulent, with fine tannins and a juicy core of fruit. Of all Ponsot wines, this is perhaps the most suitable for consumption even when young, but it is not afraid to spend years in the cellar before being appreciated.

The history of the Domaine Ponsot begins in 1872 when William Ponsot bought a wine estate in Morey-Saint-Denis and established his home there. Its main parcels of land at that time were the Clos des Monts-Luisants and the Clos de la Roche. His grandson and godson, Hippolyte Ponsot, took over the domaine in 1920 and in 1932 began bottling his entire crop at the domaine, a rarity for the time. Eventually the estate passed to Hippolyte’s son Jean-Marie, and later to Jean-Marie’s sons Laurent and Rose-Marie.

Today, Rose-Marie Ponsot is the sole director of the company, seconded from Alexandre Abel. Free from the latest fashions, Domaine Ponsot has always sought to express the richness of the Burgundy terroir through natural cultivation practices. Human intervention is limited and applied only to the help that the vine needs.
