Description
The Echézeaux Grand Cru 2020 by DOMAINE JEAN-MARC MILLOT shows a nice length. The assembly of the three plots brings a beautiful complexity thanks to the depth of the “Echézeaux du dessus”, the minerality of the “Clos St Denis” and the finesse and femininity of the “Poulaillères”. The color is intense ruby red and has all the seriousness of Grands Crus.
L’Echézeaux is a Grand Cru appellation of Flagey Echézeaux, with a large surface area, with different climates and plots between Vougeot and Vosne Romanée. Les Echézeaux consist of various terrains at an altitude between 260 and 300m, separated from the Grands Echézeaux by a simple path. With an east-southeast exposure, they can be considered the natural extension of the Clos de Vougeot. The upper part rests on a hard limestone base, conducive to finesse. Lower down, the soil is deeper, thus offering more potent wines. The Domaine has 1 ha of Echézeaux in three different climates: “les Clos Saint Denis”, “les Echézeaux du Dessus” and “les Poulaillères”.
Red fruits and minerality intertwine, giving the Echézeaux a beautiful finesse and great elegance.
Jean-Marc Millot has been growing grapes and making wines since 1992. With an amazing range of vineyards to his name, including 3 Grand Crus (Echezeaux, Grands Echezeaux and Clos de Vougeot), it was clear that this Domaine would be headed for greatness. But it was only when his daughter, Alix, arrived in 2014 and assumed all responsibility for viticulture and winemaking that this greatness was achieved. Wines have that rare ability to provide immediate carnal pleasure, while having the ability to age for decades. This is truly one of the most exciting Domaine in Burgundy.
