Description
Burlotto’s Barbera d’Alba Aves is more powerful than the entry-level Barbera, with notes of dark fruit, pepper and earth. Structured and taut; excellent with traditional sauces.
This historic estate located in the municipality of Verduno in the Barolo DOCG, was founded by Giovan Battista Burlotto, the Commendatore, in the mid-18th century, during which it obtained the illustrious title of “Supplier of the Royal House of Savoy”, and “The sole supplier of the Duke of Abruzzo’s Arctic expedition to the North Pole”. Burlotto distinguished himself by introducing the practice of selling bottled wine with the name of his estate (in the manner of French castles) at a time when it was the usual practice in the Langhe to sell wine in barrels.
Most of the estate’s vineyards are located in the commune of Verduno, where the famous Monvigliero cru is also found, which is known for its entirely south-facing location and white marl soil.
The estate remains in family ownership and is currently under the management of Burlotto’s great-granddaughter, Mariana Burlotto, and her husband, Giuseppe Alessandria.
