Description
From Podere Sante Marie on the steepest and most isolated side of Montalcino, the COLLEONI SANTA MARIA Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2017 is a majestic and mysterious wine, rich in fruity notes, cassis, stone and tobacco. Marino Colleoni is a man of enormous charisma and energy and these traits translate directly into his carefully crafted Brunellos.
Luisa and Marino Colleoni bought an old property outside Montalcino known to the locals as Le Sante Marie and moved there in 1993. In 1998 they redid the vineyards and in 2000 they had their first harvest. Luisa and Marino have embraced organic viticulture from the very beginning and have always been on the constant search for even more natural methods. The northern exposure, high altitude and marly soil (which is littered with huge shell fossils) that characterize this property combine to give an extremely elegant and fine Brunello that really stands out from most Brunello di Montalcinos.
For all their seductive characteristics, these wines do not lack the concentration of Sangiovese characteristic of this part of the world. All Marino wines are capable of long ageing.
