Description
Clos Rougeard Saumur-Champigny Les Poyeux 2019
The 2019 “Les Poyeux” by Clos Rougeard is the finest and most seductive expression of Cabernet Franc from one of the most legendary names in the Loire Valley. Originating from a single, predominantly sandy plot over a limestone base, this wine is born from organically cultivated vines, with naturally low yields and an approach in the vineyard and cellar that is deeply respectful of nature and time.
The 2019 vintage is characterized by great maturity and structure, but also by freshness and clarity. Vinification takes place in a traditional manner: spontaneous fermentations with indigenous yeasts, gentle macerations, and aging in French oak barriques for approximately 18–24 months, with a skillful use of wood and without filtration.
In the glass, it presents a bright and deep ruby red color. The olfactory profile is broad and elegant: crisp red fruits, cherry and wild strawberry, intertwine with notes of dried rose, fine spices, licorice, and light ferrous and mineral nuances. On the palate, it is lithe and refined, with silky tannins, beautiful acidity, and a persistent, deep finish of rare precision.
“Les Poyeux” is the most delicate yet no less complex face of Clos Rougeard. A collector’s bottle, capable of delivering emotions from the outset, but with significant aging potential. Pair with elegant white meat dishes, light game, or refined soft cheeses.
