Description
Clos Rougeard Saumur-Champigny Le Bourg 2018
The 2018 vintage of “Le Bourg” confirms, with a more generous and sun-drenched profile, the greatness of Clos Rougeard: one of the most mythical estates in the Loire Valley, now a symbol of absolute elegance for Cabernet Franc. Originating from one of the domaine’s best climats, this wine is born from old vines organically cultivated on limestone soils with a strong clay component, in the commune of Parnay.
2018 is a vintage of great expressiveness, yielding a Le Bourg that is deep, seductive, yet always faithful to the maison’s stylistic signature: precision, balance, and complexity. Vinification is traditional, without invasive interventions, with spontaneous fermentation and aging for approximately two years in barriques, mostly new.
In the glass, it displays a compact and brilliant ruby red color. The nose explodes with aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, ripe plum, sweet spices, tobacco, and hints of graphite. The palate is broad and enveloping, guided by velvety tannins and a freshness that perfectly balances the structure. The finish is deep and persistent, with savory and mineral notes.
A wine that embodies the nobility of Cabernet Franc with rare intensity. Perfect to drink now after a long oxygenation, but capable of evolving magnificently over the next decades. Pair with red meats, truffle dishes, or significant cheeses.
