Description

Rosé wine has been produced by Castello di Ama since 1982. The Purple Rose by Castello di Ama is made from the finest selections of Sangiovese and Merlot, using the saignée method, which involves bleeding off the juice after approximately 12 hours of skin contact. For the past three years, the extracted must has been fermented directly in second-use barriques.

Castello di Ama is located on the southeastern-central slopes of Chianti Classico, in the municipality of Gaiole in Chianti, where the soils are rich in limestone, rocky, and well-draining, with abundant Mediterranean scrubland.

The vineyards are among the highest in the appellation, with an average altitude of approximately 500 meters above sea level. These lands were already highly valued by Grand Duke Leopold of Habsburg in the late 1700s. Ama is a small, bucolic and charming hamlet, further enriched since the year 2000 by prestigious art installations created by internationally renowned artists who found inspiration in this unique location.

The modern history of Castello di Ama owes much of its success to Lorenza Sebasti and Marco Pallanti, who, with passion and determination, propelled this Chianti estate to the pinnacle of Italian winemaking.

The concepts of Cru and Terroir, now widely popular, have been at the heart of Castello di Ama’s philosophy since 1982, when they released their first Single Vineyard Selections. If Chianti Classico has shed its past reputation as a simple wine lacking aging potential, much of the credit goes to this winery, which has always pursued uncompromising quality.
