Description
Some wines are born of intuition, others from long contemplation. Haiku is both. It reflects the vision of Castello di Ama, where Tuscan elegance meets international breadth, where experimentation remains firmly rooted in tradition. The name evokes Japanese poetry: brief, essential, built on delicate balance. So is this wine.
Haiku comes from Ama, a small hamlet in Gaiole in Chianti, nestled among the highest vineyards of the Chianti Classico, at over 500 meters above sea level. The soils are stony and free-draining, rich in limestone and history. Here, Sangiovese expresses tension and verticality, while Cabernet Franc and Merlot — in equal measure — bring structure, depth, and aromatic nuance.
First produced in 2009, Haiku is an unconventional blend for this region: 50% Sangiovese, 25% Cabernet Franc, 25% Merlot. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel with native yeasts, followed by aging in French oak barriques for about one year. The result is a refined, thoughtful wine — capable of aging gracefully but also striking in its youth.
In the glass, Haiku reveals layers of black cherry, underbrush, graphite, and cool spice. On the palate, it’s vibrant and lifted, with firm yet silky tannins and a long, composed finish. A wine that, like a true haiku, says much with little
