Description
The Chianti Classico Ama del Castello di Ama was born with the 2010 vintage, the result of a blend obtained almost entirely from the grapes of the new Sangiovese clones and the most modern standards of quality viticulture, planted and trained at 5,200 vines per hectare, in the four vineyards of properties of Castello di Ama: Bellavista, Casuccia, San Lorenzo and Montebuoni, with an average age of less than 8/10 years.
The Chianti Classico Ama is rounded and accessible. It presents enormous freshness and brilliant intensity. Red cherry and blackcurrant are supported by rose petals and undergrowth notes. Castello di Ama is located in the central-south-eastern side of the Chianti Classico, in the municipality of Gaiole in Chianti where the soils are rich in limestone, rocky, loose and Mediterranean scrub abounds.
The vineyards are among the highest in the denomination at an average altitude of around 500 m above sea level and were already held in high regard by the Grand Duke Leopold of Habsburg at the end of the 1700s. Ama is a small village with a bucolic character, of great charm, enriched starting from 2000 by valuable art installations created by internationally renowned artists who were inspired by this place.
The recent history of Castello di Ama owes its fortunes to the couple Lorenza Sebasti and Marco Pallanti who with passion and determination launched this Chianti reality into the Olympus of Italian wine brands. The concepts of Cru and Terroir, so fashionable today, have been at home in Castello di Ama since 1982 when the first Vineyard Selections were released and if Chianti Classico has shed its reputation as a simple wine incapable of good ageing, much is also due to the work of this winery which has always sought quality without compromise.
