Description
The Vin Santo del Chianti Classico from Castello di Albola is produced with Malvasia del Chianti and Trebbiano Toscano. The maturation took place in the classic caratelli, typical Tuscan barrels of variable capacity between 100 and 200 liters, and was triggered by the inoculation of the so-called “mother”, that is, colonies of different yeasts deriving from previous vinifications, in the grape must dried on the racks. Aged for 8 years, it perfectly accompanies traditional Tuscan dry pastries such as cantuccini, panforte or cavallucci
The Castello di Albola is located in Radda in Chianti in the heart of the Chianti Classico DOCG appellation, where the cultivation of the vine dates back to the time of the Etruscans.
The Acciaiuoli family commissioned the estate to plant a vineyard in the highest part of the Chianti Classico in the 15th century as a symbol of their high rank. Over the centuries, many noble Tuscan families have succeeded the property, and the estate has always been mentioned for the other quality of its wines.
In 1979, the Zonin family purchased Castello di Albola with the aim of continuing the tradition of high quality wines for which the company was famous. An extension and modernization project was immediately launched which brought the estate to its current size: 125 hectares of beautifully placed vineyards and a modern cellar perfectly harmonized with the surrounding landscape.
