Description

Cascina Fontana Barolo del Comune di Monforte d’Alba 2020

Cascina Fontana’s Barolo del Comune di Monforte d’Alba 2020 is an authentic tribute to the winemaking tradition of the Langhe, embodying the legacy and passion of the Fontana family. Mario Fontana, sixth-generation winemaker, continues the work begun by his grandfather Saverio, cultivating with dedication the classic grape varieties of the region: Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto. The company, founded in 1995, extends over 5 hectares of vineyards located in the municipalities of Castiglione Falletto, La Morra and Sinio, with the main winery in Perno, in the municipality of Monforte d’Alba.

This Barolo is produced exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes from selected vineyards in the municipality of Monforte d’Alba. The winemaking follows traditional methods: spontaneous fermentation in tanks, followed by aging for 24 months in large Slavonian oak barrels and a further 12 months in concrete tanks. The wine is not filtered or clarified, keeping its natural characteristics intact.

To the eye, it presents an intense garnet red color. To the nose, it offers a complex bouquet with floral notes, ripe fruit, orange peel, licorice and menthol. In the mouth, it is elegant and persistent, with enveloping tannins and notes of cherries in alcohol and minerality. This Barolo is ideal to accompany robust dishes such as braised beef in Barolo, stewed game and mature cheeses. It is recommended to serve it at a temperature of 18-20°C, after adequate decanting for at least an hour. Its longevity is estimated between 10 and 15 years, during which it will develop further aromatic complexities.
