Description

Capannelle Solare is an iconic wine produced by the renowned Gaiole in Chianti winery. This prestigious wine is a blend of 80% Sangiovese and 20% Malvasia Nera, obtained from grapes grown in the estate’s vineyards, which extend for 10.5 hectares.

Solare has an intense ruby red color with garnet reflections. On the nose, it offers a complex and persistent bouquet of undergrowth, musk, vanilla, almond, plum and magnolia flower. On the palate, it is velvety and full-bodied, with well-balanced acidity, soft tannins and a warm, persistent finish. This wine is perfect to accompany game, braised and roasted meats, and mature cheeses.

The history of the Capannelle agricultural company began in 1974 when the entrepreneur Raffaele Rossetti moved to an old seventeenth-century farmhouse surrounded by 10.5 hectares of land in Gaiole in Chianti, the birthplace of Chianti Classico wine.
After careful analysis, work begins on a new 3.5 hectare planting of specialized vineyards with native grape varieties such as Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Colorino and Malvasia nera. Two hectares are designed to host the olive grove.

The farmhouse is renovated and brought back to its former glory with skilful structural and restoration interventions. Among the new features, the introduction of a new kitchen, where renowned chefs combine Capannelle wines with their creations and a large tasting room, characterized by a 6 meter long 17th century fratina.
Under the farmhouse, a very modern cellar is also set up with stainless steel connections and pipes that are cutting edge for the technology of the time.

In 1997 Capannelle was purchased by James B. Sherwood, founder of Orient-Express Hotels, Trains & Cruises (now the Belmond group) with the aim of developing the company’s growth potential, as well as its presence on international markets.

Today the company covers a total of 35 hectares of which 16 are intended for vineyards, from which 5 types of wine are born, the quality of which is constantly monitored by Simone Monciatti, Capannelle’s winemaker since 1984.
