Description
ITerlano Sauvignon Winkl is produced with grapes from the Winkl vineyard, sandy and rich in minerals. Translucent straw yellow with greenish reflections, it is full-bodied, with pleasant hints of summer flowers, sage and dried pineapple. Mineral and surprisingly rich, with grapefruit, coriander and hints of truffled honey on the palate. Fermented in stainless steel with 6 months on the lees, Winkl Sauvignon Blanc from Cantina Terlano is concentrated and elegant. Founded in 1893, Cantina Terlano has become one of the leading winegrowers’ cooperatives in South Tyrol, in northeastern Italy. Located in the Dolomites, at the foot of the Alps, Terlano’s distinctive position and extraordinary terroir are fundamental to the development of their splendid wines.
Located in a sheltered valley, Terlano enjoys excellent southern exposure. The slopes of the vineyards ranging from 250 to 900 m above sea level offer ideal conditions for the cultivation of vines, in particular Lagrein, a native variety of Alto Adige. Vineyards composed of red rocks with a high mineral content retain the heat of the day, while the porous soil allows water to drain, keeping the soil dry around the roots of the vines. These factors, combined with cool evening temperatures, result in wines of incredible depth and potential for ageing.
With a current membership of 143 producers cultivating a total area of 165 hectares, Terlano ensures the highest standards of quality by compensating the growers for the quality of their grapes and not for the quantity. In the vineyards, the emphasis is on yield reduction in favor of more concentrated fruit production. Terlano produces 30% of red wines and 70% of whites, all with DOC quality denomination.
