Description
The Brunello di Montalcino di Canalicchio di Sopra Vigna Montosoli 2018 is the novelty and the completion of the company zoning project started 15 years ago. Project born to experiment and try to understand the peculiarities of the terroirs available and therefore of the vineyards. The concept of single vineyard is a concept that goes in search of those characteristics that make a vineyard unique and recognizable even in different vintages. Hence the decision to choose a vintage that we have defined as “transparent” as the first vintage for this new single vineyard, a vintage that made the minerality, sapidity, tension and depth of this terroir clearly and clearly read. without the influence of an overly primary fruit that could distract attention from the characteristics that identify the Montosoli area. Produced by the Filari Lunghi vineyard on the Montosoli hill which lies on a marly soil in an elevated position with a very high mineral component and high presence of silt, this vineyard expresses shiny, saline and vibrant wines, with great persistence and length, vibrant acidity that jumps on the palate. Founded in 1962 by Primo Pacenti and now owned by his son Pier Luigi Ripaccioli, Canalicchio di Sopra reflects the history of Montalcino. Located in the northern area of the municipality, Canalicchio’s 60 hectares of land are located at one of the highest altitudes in the district, receiving limited exposure to the influence of the Mediterranean Sea. This position allows the estate to produce exceptional wines in difficult years because it is sheltered by Monte Amiata. Canalicchio’s special microclimate protects the vineyards from excessive heat or rain, from hail and generally helps the company’s grapes to ripen evenly. Guided by the past and influenced by the present, Canalicchio di Sopra’s winemaking protocol brings together the best of modern and traditional methods to produce an authentic Brunello that is the child of the high altitude of its vineyards and terroir north of Montalcino.
