Description
Rosso di Montalcino di Canalicchio di Sopra is a fresh and versatile wine, obtained from the younger vineyards of the estate, with about 90% of the grapes coming from the Canalicchio area and 10% from Montosoli. In the mouth it is snappy, but full-bodied. It can be drunk right now as an accompaniment to grilled meats and first courses with meat sauce, but it can very well age in the cellar for a few years. Founded in 1962 by Primo Pacenti and now owned by his son Pier Luigi Ripaccioli, Canalicchio di Sopra reflects the history of Montalcino. Located in the northern area of the municipality, Canalicchio’s 60 hectares of land are located at one of the highest altitudes in the district, receiving limited exposure to the influence of the Mediterranean Sea. This position allows the estate to produce exceptional wines in difficult years because it is sheltered by Monte Amiata. Canalicchio’s special microclimate protects the vineyards from excessive heat or rain, from hail and generally helps the company’s grapes to ripen evenly. Guided by the past and influenced by the present, Canalicchio di Sopra’s winemaking protocol brings together the best of modern and traditional methods to produce wines that are children of the high altitude of its vineyards and terroir north of Montalcino.
