Description
The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna del Capannino di Bibbiano is made only in the best vintages from grapes of Sangiovese Grosso monopoly clone of the homonymous vineyard located on the slope overlooking Monteriggioni. Maturation is 24 months, partly in cement and partly in French oak tonneaux and in Slavonian oak barrels; further refinement of 6 months in the bottle. Wine with a strong personality, faithful interpreter of the vineyard from which it comes.
Founded in 1865, Bibbiano is located in the municipality of Castellina in Chianti. The company overlooks the Elsa Valley towards the Monteriggioni castle.
Surrounded by an olive grove of over three thousand trees, the vineyards of Bibbiano extend over an area of about 25 hectares, at an altitude between 270 and 300 meters, with an enviable exposure and an excellent microclimate. The vineyards consist mainly of Sangiovese and Sangiovese Grosso and a smaller quantity of Colorino.
Tenuta di Bibbiano can boast the long-standing consultancy of the master taster Giulio Gambelli, also famous for his long relationships with Montevertine and Case Basse di Soldera. Their ten-year association with Gambelli, under which the current body of Bibbiano vineyards was formed, continues to live in their traditional approach to winemaking and in their commitment to pure Sangiovese. The harvest is still done manually and the grapes are carefully selected, with different vinification procedures based on the position of the slopes on which the vines are grown. They undertake to replant the vineyards using wooden poles and columns and planting only native grapes. The estate was certified organic in 2011.
