Description
At the heart of the history and economy of the Chianti region since 1141, Barone Ricasoli, based in the magnificent Castello di Brolio, is one of the four oldest wine estates in the world.
One of the ancestors of the current property, Bettino Ricasoli, also known as the Iron Baron, was the inventor of the modern Chianti Classico wine recipe in the mid-nineteenth century. Today the company is chaired by Francesco Ricasoli, Bettino’s great-grandson.
The estate, including the Castle, extends for 1200 hectares of which 230 are vineyards. With these numbers, the Gaiole in Chianti company turns out to be the largest in the area.
Granello is the result of a passion that is in the DNA of Barone Ricasoli: the desire to experiment with new vines and winemaking techniques that are not usual for the territory. The Granello is therefore a white passito with an important aromatic component.
The grapes, spread on mats, are subjected to forced ventilation in dehumidified rooms in order to favor a quick and healthy drying. After pressing the grapes, the must begins fermentation which lasts for about twenty days, then follows the maturation of the product in stainless steel for about six months.
In the glass, the Granello shows a beautiful golden yellow color. Complex nose, with hints of apricot, dried figs and acacia flowers. In the mouth it is sweet, pleasant, with the right balance of acidity. Long, persistent finish with a return of the olfactory sensations.
