Description

Sangioveto di Badia a Coltibuono was born as a tribute to a cultural tradition that dates back to the Middle Ages. “San Zoveto”, which later became “Sangioveto” was the name commonly given in the past to the Sangiovese grape. It is produced only in the best years since 1980. Intense and deep ruby red color with purple reflections. Strong floral notes of violets and iris with spicy notes of red fruits, vanilla and cloves. In the mouth it reveals a great structure: harmonious, dry and savory, with well-balanced acidity; very round and persistent with great aging potential. Good tannin that refines over time to the soft velvety

Located in Gaiole in Chianti, the history of Badia a Coltibuono dates back to 1051 and to the order of the Vallombrosan monks. The current owners are the brothers Emanuela, Roberto, Paolo and Guido Stucchi Prinetti.

The hectares of vines are 74 for the most part in the Monti sub-area, always in the municipality of Gaiole in Chianti.

With a thousand years of wine history behind them, the Stucchi Prinetti feel the responsibility of safeguarding the territory. Badia a Coltibuono was one of the first to adopt sustainable practices in Chianti Classico and was at the forefront of bringing the entire region to grow organically. All the grapes on the estate are now organically grown. The vinification takes place in the winery’s vinification plant, technologically and architecturally advanced, located among the vineyards not far from the abbey. The structure has been designed to have the minimum environmental impact. The winemaking philosophy of Badia a Coltibuono provides for vinification with indigenous yeasts, both in wood and in stainless steel, with aging mainly in large barrels or used oak barrels.

One of the prides of Badia a Coltibuono is the heritage of ancient Sangiovese settlers, used to replant key sites at higher densities, of 7-8,000 Sangiovese plants per hectare.
