Description
Arianna Occhipinti Siccagno 2021 is a Nero d’Avola that embodies the essence of Sicily. This red wine, classified as Sicilia DOC, comes from vineyards located at an altitude of 280 meters above sea level, on medium consistency soils composed of light sand and limestone rock.
Viticulture is conducted according to the principles of biodynamics, with organic certification and without chemical interventions. The vines, trained using spurred cordon and sapling methods, have an average age of 35 years and a planting density of 6,000 vines per hectare.
The harvest takes place in the first ten days of October. Fermentation takes place in concrete tanks with indigenous yeasts, with maceration on the skins for 25 days. Aging involves 24 months in 30 hectoliter Austrian oak barrels, followed by 2 months in the bottle.
Siccagno 2021 has a dark ruby red color. On the nose, it offers a complex bouquet of plum, blackberry and currant, enriched with notes of tobacco, liquorice and myrtle. On the palate, it is warm and enveloping, with well-balanced acidity and velvety tannins. It is an elegant and reactive wine, perfect for accompanying spicy dishes and red meats
Arianna Occhipinti is a young winemaker who launched her first vintage in 2004 at the age of 21. A cult figure of the biodynamic movement, Arianna takes care of 14 hectares of olive groves and 5 hectares of vineyards in the land around Vittoria, in south-eastern Sicily.
Occhipinti built its reputation on Frappato, a secondary grape in Sicily usually used to liven up heavy Nero D’Avola. Arianna, with tenacity and stubbornness, has demonstrated that Frappato can give great results even in purity.
