Description

Arianna Occhipinti Grotte Alte 2019 is a red wine of great elegance and complexity, an authentic expression of the Sicilian territory. This wine is classified as Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG Classico and comes from a blend of 50% Nero d’Avola and 50% Frappato di Vittoria, grown with certified organic biodynamic methods. The vines grow on medium-consistency soils, composed of brown sand and sub-Apennine limestone rock, at an altitude of 280 meters above sea level. The training system used is Guyot and sapling, with a planting density of 6,000 vines per hectare and an average age of the plants of 40 years. The harvest takes place in the first ten days of October.

The winemaking involves spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in concrete tanks, followed by maceration on the skins for 30 days. Aging takes place for 48 months in 50 hl French oak barrels, with a further 4 months of aging in the bottle.

The Grotte Alte 2019 has an intense ruby red color. On the nose, it releases complex aromas of ripe red fruit, Mediterranean spices, aromatic herbs and mineral notes. In the mouth, it is harmonious and structured, with a vibrant freshness and a long and persistent finish that reflects the flavor of the sea and the temperature variations of the Iblei mountains. This wine represents the perfect synthesis of Sicily, ideal for those seeking a refined and authentic sensorial experience. Perfect to pair with meat dishes, mature cheeses and Mediterranean cuisine.

Arianna Occhipinti is a young winemaker who launched her first vintage in 2004 at the age of 21. A cult figure of the biodynamic movement, Arianna takes care of 14 hectares of olive groves and 5 hectares of vineyards in the land around Vittoria, in south-eastern Sicily.

Occhipinti built its reputation on Frappato, a secondary grape in Sicily usually used to liven up heavy Nero D’Avola. Arianna, with tenacity and stubbornness, has demonstrated that Frappato can give great results even in purity.
