Description
The 2021 Brancaia Chianti Classico Riserva is a beautiful wine that does an excellent job of bringing together the many and varied components of what makes a great Chianti Classico into a single bottle. The wine is balanced and intense with a bouquet that begins with black fruit and then fades into a continuum of spices, leather, tar and earth. In the mouth it is structured, fresh and delicious. The blend is 80% Sangiovese and 20% Merlot.
The history of Brancaia is relatively recent. It dates back to the early eighties when the Swiss couple Brigitte and Bruno Widmer fell in love with the Chianti hills and decided to buy an abandoned farm just outside Castellina in Chianti: Brancaia.
The success of the wines from this estate was almost immediate and hence the need to invest in nearby Radda in Chianti, in Poppi and subsequently also in Maremma not far from the Tuscan coast.
The Widmers’ passion was soon passed on to their daughter Barbara who, after studying oenology, personally follows and manages the company.
The identity of Brancaia wines is very precise. Its fans appreciate it for the well-ripe fruit and the clean aromas, the delicacy of the sip, always present in its simpler wines and the important structure in its more ambitious wines.
