Description

Giacomo Conterno’s Barbera Vigna Francia comes from the Cascina Francia cru in Serralunga d’Alba. The vineyard sits on limestone soil and has a west-southwest exposure. The Barbera yield is very low: 30-35 hl per hectare. Vinification is traditional, lasting 2-3 weeks in wooden vats with regular breaking of the cap. Aged for two years in large barrels.

Cantine Giacomo Conterno is one of the greatest names in all of Piedmont. The estate was founded in 1908 when Giacomo’s father, Giovanni Conterno, opened an inn in the village of San Giuseppe. Giovanni made Barolo from purchased grapes and sold off the excess, as was customary throughout the region in the early 20th century. The Riserva Barolo Monfortino was first bottled in 1920, produced by Giovanni and his son Giacomo upon their return from the war. Thus began the legend.
