Description
The Gran Selezione di Tregole is the ultimate expression of Sangiovese cultivated in this remote and highly suitable corner of Chianti Classico. It’s a wine that unites power and grace, depth and precision. Visually, it presents a dense ruby color with garnet hues. The nose is complex and layered: ripe dark fruit, sweet tobacco, humus, black pepper, and balsamic notes. On the palate, it’s enveloping, with a present yet silky tannic structure, supported by firm acidity that ensures elegance and longevity. The finish is long, savory, with a harmonious and fresh conclusion. It’s a wine that knows how to wait and rewards those who anticipate it.
This exceptional result stems from a unique terroir. The vineyards from which the Gran Selezione originates are located in the highest and most ventilated part of Tregole, a hill enclosed by three deep gorges that protect the rows and create a microclimate particularly favorable for the slow ripening of Sangiovese. The soils consist of a precious interweaving of alberese, galestro, and macigno del Chianti—three geological matrices that impart structure, finesse, and a distinct minerality to the wine. The altitude, between 500 and 580 meters, provides cool nights even in summer, slowing down ripening and preserving aromas and acidity. As Alessandro Masnaghetti has also highlighted, this sub-zone of Castellina has a very distinct pedoclimatic profile, leading to wines of rare tension and expressive precision.
The Fattoria Tregole winery, now managed by Sophie Conte, is a small estate that operates with artisanal dedication and a clear vision. All vineyards are cultivated organically, and winemaking occurs with the utmost respect for the fruit: spontaneous fermentations in concrete, aging in large barrels, and careful time management, allowing the wine to express itself without force. The Gran Selezione is produced only in the best vintages, from hand-selected grapes vinified separately. It is a tribute to the territory and its deepest identity.
