Description
The Villa Calcinaia Chianti Classico stands out for a profile that unites classicism and depth. The nose opens with notes of ripe cherry, violet, Mediterranean herbs, and subtle hints of sweet spices. On the palate, it is energetic and harmonious: the lively acidity supports a lean yet layered body, while the tannins – elegant and well-integrated – accompany a long, mineral, and savory finish. It is a Sangiovese with a clear personality, capable of combining drinkability with territorial character.
The wine originates in Montefioralle, one of the most representative UGAs (Additional Geographical Units) of Chianti Classico. Here, the vineyards lie between 300 and 500 meters above sea level, on well-exposed and ventilated slopes. The soils are calcareous-marly with a significant presence of alberese – a calcareous rock that ensures excellent drainage – and partly pietraforte, a sandstone that provides structure. This geological mosaic, combined with the altitude and strong diurnal temperature shifts, yields subtle, elegant wines with vibrant freshness and a fine tannic texture. The resulting mineral character and aromatic purity represent one of the most recognizable signatures of the Montefioralle terroir.
Villa Calcinaia is a historic estate located in the municipality of Greve in Chianti, owned by the Capponi family since 1524. The vineyards are cultivated with full respect for the environment, using a organic approach and traditional methods. The company’s philosophy prioritizes the authentic expression of Sangiovese and its territory through minimally interventionist winemaking and long aging. Calcinaia’s wines reflect a deep connection with the history and identity of Chianti Classico, always maintaining a keen eye for precision and elegance.
