Description
The two expressions of Alberelli di Giodo are born in eight small plots in the Etna districts “Rampante” and “Pietrarizzo”, which, added up, reach just over two and a half hectares. The precious pre-phylloxera vines of Nerello Mascalese have an between 80 and 100 years old and thrive between 700 and 950 meters above sea level, while the Carricante vines are found a little higher up, between 800 and 900 meters above sea level and are about 50 years old. All are tree-trained and coexist with olive and fruit trees. The altitude and the ideal northern exposure make it possible to obtain wines with unique structure and fruit, while the minerality derives from the black pumice soil of the Volcano.
Also in the Alberelli di Giodo label the protagonist is the little man-vine, which represents the autochthonous vine, Nerello Mascalese or Carricante, standing on the top of the volcano to support the world of wine alone because it interprets the vineyards of the Etna.
The perfectly healthy grapes taken to the cellar at the beginning of September remain 20 days in fermentation in steel vats. They then mature for about 6 months on the lees, always in steel and are refined for 10 months in the bottle.
The irresistible charm of Etna made Carlo Ferrini fall in love with him, who has been visiting Sicily as a consultant winemaker for over twenty years. This is how Alberelli di Giodo was born, with a pure Nerello Mascalese, the first vintage being 2016, which has also been joined by a Carricante since the 2020 vintage.
