Massa is the flagship wine of this important company from Panzano in Chianti.
After spending some time in Bordeaux, Giampaolo Motta left his leather company in Naples and headed north to work in Chianti, attracted by a passion for wine. In Bordeaux he had acquired the practices and knowledge that would later serve him in his Chianti adventure in La Massa, where Giampaolo owns 27 hectares of vineyards in the Conca d’Oro di Panzano in Chianti. He bought this ancient property in 1991, with its vineyards that have been cultivated since the 15th century and the following year it already became known for Giorgio I.
In 1998, Giampaolo lent “La Massa”, a Chianti Classico which he downgraded to IGT Toscana in 2002. Wanting the freedom to produce high quality wines that did not require specific percentages of Sangiovese, Giampaolo decided to produce only IGTs led by the La Massa terrior . Today Giorgio Primo is a mix of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot and La Massa is composed of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot or Alicante B.
