Cupano Brunello di Montalcino 2016 is a modern wine with a high extract and lots of ripe fruit well intertwined with the tannic texture. After vinification, 40% of the wine rests in new French oak for 30 months, thus acquiring softness, spice and intensity. Toasty and sensual notes fill the palate, followed by licorice and candied cherry.
Cupano is a small but well-established producer of Brunello in Montalcino located at the far end of Montalcino, south of Siena, on a stony hill above the Ombrone river. Under the guidance of the master oenologists, Ornella Tondini and Lionel Cousin, the estate expresses the memory, the landscape, the season and the history of the place through its Brunello di Montalcino. Henri Jayer, legendary Burgundy winemaker, instilled many of his beliefs in Ornella and Lionel, including avoiding chemical fertilizers or pesticides, limiting yields, rigorous selection on the sorting table and malolactic fermentation on the lees in the new French barriques. .
Carlo Ferrini has selected the land for the vineyards and vineyards. François Bouchet initiated biodynamic agriculture.
This is how beautiful wines guided by the terroir are born: Brunello di Montalcino and Rosso di Montalcino – capable of expressing the complexity and specificity of the place in their purity.
